Stocking-Stuffer Inspiration

I am so fed up with candy by the time the Christmas holiday arrives. Arm-wrestling my kids as they negotiate candy from Halloween well into Thanksgiving, doesn’t leave me with much patience for refined sugar. (I believe refined sugar is the root of so much illness but that opinion is best left for another post)

I take great pride in filling my children’s holidays with non-candy treats. There is still a more disposable element to some of the items, which concerns me from an environmental standpoint. But, I do pick and choose my struggles on this, and as always, I continue to practice the great Law of Attraction skill of letting go!

As my children grow older I can’t get away with stuffing their Easter baskets and holiday stockings with sidewalk chalk or bubbles. (I stretched that out as long as I could!) The small trinkets of interest to them have the potential to get expensive and sometimes I buy things months in advance of the holiday if the price and item is right.

So here are some of my finds for holiday stockings. These are for my daughters ages 6 and 9 years old!

I hope they inspire you as you plunge head on into the the couple weeks before Christmas.

1)I found this darling knit owl at the most fantastic shop in the Old Czech Village in Cedar Rapids. Create Exchange!! https://www.thecreateexchange.com/ (Made by Oodles of Owls!) Half the shop is handmade crafts and art, the other half is recycled findings and craft supplies for purchase. There are even some fantastic fine-art found object pieces!!

2)My kids never have enough art supplies! I love gifting them craft materials at their birthdays and holidays to restock their supply.

-Watercolor palette great for taking outdoors for plein air painting. I got this one on clearance at the Aaron Brothers near us that was closing. But you can get one here for about what I paid!

-Easy to transport colored pencil set with sharpener for road trips or long waits at appointments or lessons. I swear we never find a sharpened colored pencil we we need it! Solutions abound! I also got these on clearance but the set below is ergonomic and recycled!

-Cork stamps from a fabric painting kit. Divided them up between my kids’ 2 stockings.
This is exactly the set I got! I’m imagining these will be great to stamp air dry clay also.

3)My oldest daughter is reading for school on the regular and little sister is dabbling in reading. These magnetic bookmarks are great place-keepers and affirmations. This set has affirmations coordinated with chakras! That’s cool!

These paper clips also make great bookmarks or they can use them for scrapbooking or holding photos and drawings. Yes, I got these on clearance too. Are you seeing a theme!?! You can grab the same one’s here though.

4)It wouldn’t be a celebration without rocks!! I picked these up from Realive in Marion. https://www.realivemetaphysical.com/ I bought a raw emerald, hypersthene, and blue lace agate! Definitely better-priced at Realive (maybe they ship?) I buy my kids stones based off the struggles I see them having, and I research which stones can support them. However, if they are involved in the buying process I always let them choose. They always pick exactly what they need! If you are not able to buy them in person then you can grab them here:

5)This little snowman gift tag came in a set but my kids will love them as a hanging decoration or even a bookmark. I couldn’t find anything just like it online, but these tags from a seller on Etsy are pretty darn cute!

6)Pompoms are always a hit, especially when keychain-sized and easily attached to a backpack. This one is faux fur… I was kinda surprised how many real fur ones I found online when searching for a link for you all. Not stoked! This one, however, IS faux fur! Phew!

7)Found these tiny unicorn necklaces for a steal on Amazon. The unicorn love runs deep in our home.

8)Lip balm. We have 1/2 used lip balm everywhere. I once had visions of grandeur, everyone having their own unique lip balm to keep germs at bay. I’ve come to accept that we are sharing them all…when we can find them. My kids LOVE the EOS stuff.

9)Beanie boos just never stop. Never stop being at eye-level in check out lines, never stop being loved by my kids, never stop being in their exact favorite animal at any given moment. I got these on clearance a few months ago, but if you are just-ready-to-get-these-darn-stockings-filled-already, here’s where you can grab this one:

10)My youngest daughter NEEDED to have a pendulum in a bad way when we went to the Body, Mind, Soul expo in Denver a couple months ago. I encouraged her to ask Santa.

11)The same gentleman who had the pendulums also threw in some fortune teller fish when I told him they were for my kids. I was transported on my childhood time machine to my first experience with this tiny insignificant but magical fish-shaped piece of cellophane! How could I have forgotten these!?! I tried to find a link where you could buy one, but honestly I don’t think you need a minimum quantity of 144 fortune telling fish. If you want that many you can find that on Amazon! I also couldn’t encourage you to spend $6 for one. That being said, instead, here, I will link the science behind how the fortune telling fish works, since you know I’m all about the science behind woo-woo!

12)While my oldest daughter is savvy to Santa and really, the one keyed on finer details, I use origami or scrapbooking paper to wrap their stocking stuffers so as to not make the connection to our big rolls of wrapping paper. How Good Are You Willing To Allow Your Life To Be?

Abraham-Hicks once addressed a crowd and asked “How good are you willing to allow your life to be?”

This time of year we may be looking to feel good by what we open up on the family holiday, or hope to make others feel good by what we’ve bought for them, but the good feelings from material possessions is fleeting and because it doesn’t come from inner truth and is a satisfaction that comes from outside ourself. This means we will constantly seek satisfaction from others and ideas outside ourself, and never quite feel fulfilled.

But when you do the work to seek satisfaction from within, then you need only ask yourself, “How good are you willing to allow your life to be?” We always hear phrases like “get out of your own way” and “mind over matter.” But how often do we stop to consciously consider the effect we have on our own mind and life.

It is truly about allowing your life to be good. Sometimes that means there is some work and practice to be done before the allowing part comes with ease. The practice of expecting good things life begins with small daily practices. They don’t have to take long, and they don’t have to be complicated. But you do need to show up, everyday.

How do I practice having a good life? The same way I teach my kids to expect to have a good life.

1)I practice gratitude. Sometimes this mean telling the people in my life I love and appreciate them, other times it is finding small pieces of my daily life in which I find beauty or delight.

2)I visualize the life I want and practice the feelings I will have when that life is in my current reality. (or I switch to that reality)

3)I set my intentions everyday, usually at bedtime. I used to write in a journal without guidance, but I recently purchased @theIAmJournal and have just starting practicing manifestation with its guidance.

4)I step out on my path. I say yes a lot to new opportunities, people and experiences.

5)I do everything with goodwill and love. EVERYTHING. ok… almost everything… but A LOT of things!

Do you expect to have a good life? More importantly, are you willing to allow your life to be good?

A Little Less Coffee

The Law of Attraction works best when you feel good and have good feeling thoughts. It’s always easier to feel good when your body is healthy and happy. This is one of many reasons why I believe in self-care both physically and emotionally.

As many of you who follow me on social media know, I struggle with “needing” coffee and using it as a crutch to keep me energized all day instead of just a morning pick me up. I actually didn’t drink coffee for a decade but diving headfirst into divorce left me a bonafide caffeine-a-holic.

Now I find, coffee is kindest to me as an afternoon pick-me-up and I try to drink other beverages earlier in the day. My adrenals are sensitive (or maybe just damaged) and so starting my day off with gentler ingredients that offer antioxidants has really been working for me.

With this approach, I am able to better focus on my kids at night after a long day. I can help with homework, read stories and play games without wishing I were actually sleeping. (ok, maybe I still long for some naps, but it’s better!)

I have tried numerous substitutes for my coffee habit. Some without caffeine and some with just a little bit. Here are are my favorites:

Cup of SunShine– This herbal tea is not roasty like coffee, but still delicious with some honey and cream. It gives me a little bit of lift to clear out the overnight mental cobwebs without driving my adrenals all the way to full tilt before the day really starts.

Teeccino French Roast– Also caffeine-free, I love this drink when I’m really craving that roasted flavor. Yup, I even sometimes make it bulletproof.

Yerba Mate– It’s like the super hero of teas. It does have a significant level of caffeine, but the density of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and amino acids supports your body for a lift that won’t leave you feeling down in the dumps when the caffeine fades. And yup, I drink this one with honey and cream too.

Green Tea– Also jammed packed with antioxidants, green tea does have some caffeine, but gently supports your desired awakened state. It also supports brain health which can only help us in our parenting adventure.

A Parent’s Quick Guide to the Law of Attraction

The Law of Attraction is a practice that has kept me hopeful and positive through hard times. While lifting me up through those times, I found it also changed my perspective on the events the Universe brings me. With the Law of Attraction as a tool to guide me, I find life to be full of limitless positive possibilities and have seen my children embrace the power they posses.

While I discover my own self-love, I am also able to guide my children to trust themselves and find purpose!

The Law of Attractions is a simple technique, that when practiced regularly helps parents to become self-assured, peaceful and expansive! With this new awareness, parents are able to bring consciousness practices to their families and help children to become confident, sure of their truth and purposeful.

Tarot For Kids

Rachel with Quinlan Tarot was my guest last month on the Abundant Parent Membership. In the workshop she taught us how children can use tarot to tell stories, to tell their own stories, and to tap into their intuition.

A Healthy Adult Knows Their Intuition From Childhood

When you teach your child to trust in the Universe you’re teaching them to trust in their inner guidance system. The Universe is always nudging them on their journey, to take steps towards their purpose. They must only listen to their intuition.

A child sure if their truth and purpose will seek less validation from peers, romantic partners, employers and teachers. They will do good work because it feels right, at their core.

As a parent raising a child who co-creates their reality, your job is to guide them. You will encourage them to self-reflect and follow that feeling of complete joy that comes from being in alignment with your purpose.

As an adult, don’t think that you are not susceptible to wanting the approval of your peers. This is good practice for you as well. Find your truth, live in alignment with it! It will serve you positively in ways you cannot imagine! Or maybe you can.

Quick Fixes for Anxiety

I had a client reach out asking for the tools I use to deal with anxiety and encourage relaxation. Over the years I have come to rely on many tools both at home and from outside providers. Some are good for regular maintenance others are good in a high anxiety moment. Tuning in, listening to the signals your body is giving you, and catching the anxiety early on the the best way to fend off further bad feelings. However, many of these tools will work even in the high emotional state of anxiety. As always, these are tools for support, but seek the advice of your doctor as well.

Here’s my go-to’s:

1) Have a Cuppa

I drink Traditional Medicinals Cup of Calm tea. It works like a charm! This tea is fantastic to calm nerves or even to soothe a busy mind before bedtime. I enjoyed it as ice tea all summer but do love it warm with honey also.

2) Stone Cold Healing

I was schooled about Lepidolite when I visited a local rock shop (Herbs & Arts on Colfax in Denver). It vibrates in my hand when I’m stressed and doesn’t when I’m calm… cool, right!?! It helps with emotional healing and balance. The stone available for purchase below is shaped like a worry stone. Appropriate for a stone great for anxiety, don’t you think?

3) Tapping is Magical

I’m convinced. I can go from stressed to singing in a 5 minute YouTube session. I like Jennifer Partridge videos quite a bit.

4) Meditation Works

I know the hardest thing is to start your practice. It seems like such a luxury when you are a parent. But you must start! Check out my “Meditate in 1 Minute” video on Youtube. It’s a really easy way to start fitting mediation and breathing into your day. It can nip anxious feelings in the bud!

5) Get Outside

Get outside, even for 5 minutes….. and breathe. Observe something beautiful. Take a moment to be grateful. Even better, trying to hike/walk for 30 minutes or just play outside with your kids. If you struggle getting outside in the winter, “I Love Dirt!” gives some great winter activities.

6) Limit Caffeine

I know… I’m the worst. I LOVE Mate Factor Yerbe Mate that is dark roast as a light caffeine coffee substitute. It’s also crazy high in antioxidants. It gives me a light lift without causing the coffee crash later.

7) Get Your Smudge On

I sage (clears negative energy), I burn palo santo (restores positive energy), I use salt lamps (I like this one) and I diffuse oils (I had an essential oil expert on my workshops). I love this smudge kit below! My kids love using the abalone shell for the smudge sticks. My youngest is a big fan (Get it? Fan!?) of using the feather to move the energy and the smoke to clear. Sage clears out all the energy and Palo Santo bring the good energy back in.

8) Let a Professional Handle It!

I have an amazing energy worker in my back pocket. She has worked miracles in healing past trauma and blocks. She can turn our moods from frowns to smiles over the course of 30 minutes. And her work lasts. Send me an email for her info. Energy workers who can move energy and use Reiki, amongst other methods, are extraordinarily helpful!

9) Get Inspired

I listen to and read motivational messages constantly and I unfollow negative pages and people on social media. Follow Gabby Berstein (who is actually expecting her first baby!) listen to Lewis Howes School of Greatness Podcast if you are into LOA I can’t get enough of Abraham Hicks

10) Affirm, Affirm, Affirm!

Affirm yourself like nobody’s business. Print quotes off of Pinterest and give me a follow while you are there! Tape them to your bathroom mirror. Make eye contact with yourself as you affirm yourself in the mirror. You won’t believe your affirmations at first but it comes with practice
